Winter Squash Chowder

Recipes posted a year ago:

One of the best things about this time of year is the huge selection of different winter squash that are available.  Acorn, butternut, delicata, pumpkin, and any number of heirloom varieties.  And while roasted and grilled are favorite ways to use these fall fruits as a side dish, we’ve added some dry-cured ham and made them into a hearty one-pot meal.  This is definitely one of my favorite new recipes, and I look forward to making again and again.

Pumpkin and Apple Chili

Recipes posted a year ago:

I am pretty proud of myself with this recipe. I basically took some  fall fruit and veggies from our CSA and threw in some elk meat, the tomatoes I canned, and anything else that sounded good, to make this yummilicious chili.  Local, organic, seasonal produce is so extraordinarily wonderful!  I highly recommend signing up for a CSA near you.  You will not regret it one bit!! This is a quick and easy recipe to throw into the Crockpot.

Sloppy Joes

I can’t even begin to write this post without hearing my brother mimicking this song.  Ah, it just cracks me up every time. 🙂   Did you also know that Sloppy Joe has many other aliases?   Unlike those you will get in the cafeteria at school, we actually know what goes into this delicous recipe.  Of course we will not be serving it with any kind of a bun.  This is great by itself, over some veggies, and/or with some sweet potato fries.

Pumpkin Pie

I stumbled upon a great recipe for primal pumpkin pie, although I still modified it some by eliminating a few things and adding others.  I am not a huge fan of pumpkin pie, but as I have grown older, I have enjoyed it more.  Still, my favorite is  fruit pie, especially berry, but we will save a recipe for that in springtime 🙂

I did bring a sampling of this pumpkin pie to the gym and those who tasted it liked it very much.  I have to admit, it is pretty darn good!  So in the spirit of Thanksgiving, give this one a try.  If you can keep your beak closed about it, you may get your guests to think it is “real” pumpkin pie!

(Update:  I have also made this recipe with a nut crust as in this recipe.  It gives it a more crunchy texture, but is also delicious.  You can really up the food processor and grind the nuts down even more for less crunch.)

Almond Butter Spicy Snack Cake

Hey, so where are all the treats?  Got a great one for you right here!  Even though I call this cake, there is no flour or bad bad gluten too mess with your insides.  Don’t ask me how this rises, it just does and it’s cool (I’ll leave the technical stuff to Casey).  So, first things first: Looks like I have two friends this time.   They will figure it out soon enough and go take a nap.
